Sören Reinke

Post-doctoral Scientist

I studied Biology (BSc) and Molecular and Cell Biology (MSc) at Freie Universität Berlin. This was followed by post-graduate studies at Dresden University of Technology, investigating the mechanisms underlying rare auto-inflammatory diseases using pre-clinical mouse models. In 2020, after obtaining a PhD in Immunology, I joined the Vaccine Formulation and Adjuvants Group at Oxford, working on the development of new adjuvanted vaccines. Studying novel vaccine adjuvants towards clinical development, manufactured by the Vaccine Formulation Institute (VFI) in Geneva, we investigated their mechanisms of action, with a particular focus on the intersection of innate and adaptive immune responses.

Using a murine model of malaria, along with other model systems, we are characterising the innate and adaptive immune activation in a spatio-temporal manner, analysing local and systemis cellular and molecular events. Through studying the site of injection, draining lymph node, peripheral blood, spleen and liver, we aim to uncover the precise mechanisms of clinically relevant adjuvant-induced immune activation and the resulting interplay between innate and adaptive immunity, facilitaing efficient, mechanistically informed future vaccine design.
