Webinar recap: Investigating vaccine adjuvant-induced inflammation in human lymph nodes

20 Mar 2026

In May 2024, Joannah delivered a webinar in collaboration with Precisionary Instruments, highlighting innovative approaches to studying human immune responses using precision-cut lymph node slices.

The session addressed key challenges in the development of new vaccine modalities, particularly the need for physiologically relevant human tissue models to better understand immune activation. Joannah introduced precision-cut lymph node slices as a powerful ex vivo platform, enabled by the Compresstome system, which allows live human lymph node tissue to be sectioned while preserving its structural and cellular complexity.

Using this model, the webinar explored how vaccine adjuvants drive inflammation and immune activation within human lymph nodes. Joannah also presented insights into the mechanism of action of an open-source adjuvant, identified through studies using these tissue slices.

This work demonstrates how human tissue-based models can provide deeper mechanistic understanding and support the development of more effective and translatable vaccine strategies.
