Technological Approaches for Improving Vaccination Compliance and Coverage (2020, Vaccines)

For global use, vaccines must be safe, effective, and affordable. In parallel, incomplete vaccination coverage hinders disease control and eradication. Improving how we deliver vaccines is crucial to maximising their impact. New technologies, including innovative delivery methods (like mucosal and skin-based vaccination), oral vaccines, and single-dose approaches delivering controlled antigen release, hold a promise to improve coverage and patient compliance.
This review explores the application of micro- and nano-technologies to these alternative vaccine routes and delivery systems, including oral administration and encapsulation for controlled release.
